Product Description
We started out a week to tend days late with bud break occuring between April 21st and the 25th. What really defined the 2009 growing season was a series of "heat spikes" that took place throughout the summer months. Photosynthesis typically occurs with sunling and temperatures between 60-95 degrees. We had two seperate three day weather events with high temperatures ove 100 degrees. While several 100 plus degree days can spell trouble for Oregon's Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, a handful of these days proved to be very "fruitful" for the '09 growing season. With a warm September and adequate hang time for most of our fruit, we harvested all of fruit by October 12th. All of the premium, American West Coast growing regions, including Oregon's Willamette Valley, Eastern Washington State's Columbia and Walla Walla Valley's, and Napa/Sonoma in California recorded record numbers of heat units (also known as Growing Degree Days). Overall, 2009 ended up being an excellent year for Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, the main grapes grown in the Willamette Valley.
